Essential oils have a number of benefits not only for the skin but also for emotional well-being. An essential oil is a concentrated, hydrophobic liquid containing ‘volatile' aromatic compounds from plants. It is most often produced through distillation. Essential oils are used in perfumery, aromatherapy, cosmetics, incense, health care, and flavoring for food and drink. The medical use of essential oils has a long and distinguished history. Medical properties and applications vary from skin treatments to remedies for cancer, and historical use of these oils for these purposes is well documented.
Essential oils have an immediate impact on our sense of smell or "olfaction". When essential oils are inhaled, olfactory receptor cells are stimulated and the impulse is transmitted to the "limbic system": the emotional centre of the brain linked to memory, breathing, and blood circulation, as well as the endocrine glands that regulate hormone levels in the body. Inhaling the scent of certain oils will give one a feeling of relaxation, grounding and comfort.
When used in massage, essential oils are not only inhaled, but absorbed through the skin as well. They penetrate the tissues and find their way into the bloodstream where they are transported to the organs and systems of the body.
Pure Attar uses only the finest quality essential and perfume oils and many of the oils we employ have been used for centuries for their healing and meditative properties. Inspired by tradition, all of our oils come from exotic locations throughout Africa, India and the Middle East.
